We're opening a member-owned cooperative grocery store in the Kensington area of Philadelphia. Our mission is to provide healthy, quality food, products and services to our members and the community.
KCFC is building the membership and raising the funds necessary to open a grocery store. The scope, scale, and future of the project will be determined by how we can best serve our membership.
What does it mean to be a member of KCFC?
The lifeblood of a Co-op is its membership. Members are the loyal shoppers and members form the vision to get the food and services they want, because members own the store.
As a member-owner your benefits before the store opens are:
- Discounts at local businesses through our Shop Local Program
- A say in the food we will sell. By joining early, you get to influence the products we sell from day one. We work to serve the needs of our members!
- A substantial role in the KCFC mission. Just by joining, you help get this store open sooner rather than later!!!
- Becoming an active member in an exciting worldwide cooperative movement!
When the store opens:
- Ownership - Walk in like you own the place, because you do!
- Discounts - Co-ops typically offer members-only discounts.
- Democratic governance - Each owner has a say in how the Co-op is governed. You can even serve as a board member.
- Annual rebates – Refunds are paid to members based on the profit of our sales, and the amount an individual member has spent at the store.
Joining KCFC before we open our doors allows you to have a say in the products and services we provide from day one. You also help us open our doors sooner rather than later. As a member of KCFC, you are investing in a business that supports local business, local farmers, organic production, fair trade, human cooperation, and healthy living. Membership payments can be made in 5 installments of $40 or a one-time fee of $200.
